ABSTRACT

Objective: In the process of college students' employment, psychological capital, and social support play a vital role. Methods: This study examined the relationship between career expectation and employment anxiety of Chinese vocational art college students (N = 634). Participants completed the Career Expectation Scale (CES), Employment Anxiety Scale (EAS), Psychological Capital Scale (PCS), and Social Support Scale (SSS). Results: (1) Vocational art students' career expectation has a positive predictive effect on employment anxiety, social support, and psychological capital; Social support and psychological capital have negative predictive effects on employment anxiety. (2) Social support and psychological capital play a significant chain intermediary role between career expectation and employment anxiety, and there is a masking effect. Conclusion: These results are of guiding significance to the improvement of the employment quality of art students in higher vocational colleges and the employment consulting work in colleges.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Considering the severity of the global outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) on the whole of humanity, particularly in this case on the physical and mental health of students, this study strives to explore the role of financial worries, employment anxiety and COVID-19 knowledge on depression and mental health among students in Bangladesh. Design/methodology/approach: In the study, a deductive reasoning approach was employed, together with a self-administered questionnaire survey. Questionnaires were sent to the respondents via different social media and by email by creating a Google form link. We finally received 387 responses students aged over 18 years who had internet access in order to complete the survey. To analyze the data, structural equation modeling via AMOS was used. Findings: The results showed that employment anxiety, financial worry, and knowledge on COVID-19 positively influence depression, and finally depression negatively influences the mental health of the students. Thus, our findings supported all of the proposed hypotheses. Originality/value: The research enriches the existing literature pool by contributing empirical substantiation on the role of employment anxiety, financial worries and knowledge of COVID-19 in depression, and the impact of depression on mental health.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19, which is characterized by uncertainty, makes the employment anxiety of college graduates in the period of career change more and more intense. How to deal with this challenge is particularly important. The present study took career planning as a moderating variable to explore the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty (IU) and employment anxiety, as well as the role of career planning. In this quantitative study, the data of 563 college graduates from different schools were collected by using the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12, Vocational Selection Anxiety Questionnaire of University Graduate, and Career Planning Scale. The final effective sample size was 550 (the overall recovery rate was 97.7%). The results of correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between IU and employment anxiety, while there was a significant negative correlation between career planning and IU, as well as the relationship between career planning and employment anxiety. The results of hierarchical regression analysis showed that IU significantly positively predicted the employment anxiety of graduates, and career planning moderated the relationship between IU and employment anxiety. These findings suggested that maintaining a sense of career planning can help college graduates get through smoothly in the face of uncertainty of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Covid-19 has impacted the lives of everyone around the world, including university students. The pandemic has wreaked havoc on all economies, resulting in a huge loss of employment. As a result, university students are anxious about their job prospects upon graduation. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of two stressors - employment anxiety and financial anxiety and two supports - university support and lecturer support on dropout intention and academic performance on university students with well-being and purpose in life being the mediators. This quantitative was carried out in Malaysia using 436 final-year undergraduate students. The full mediation model indicated that the university and lecturer support mitigates the two stressors' effects through well-being and purpose in life. Students who reported better support systems reported lower academic concerns and were less likely to drop out than those who reported less support from their university and lectures. The significance of this study and its implications are discussed, along with the findings.
